Conductor, composer and pianist Gregor A. Mayrhofer is currently assistant conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and he is the first person to receive the Sir Simon Rattle Scholarship of the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.
Mayrhofer has conducted many orchestras throughout Europe, in the United States, Russia and on the East African island of Mauritius.
In 2013, he was Interim Director of Opera Mauritius and was appointed Assistant Conductor of the Ensemble Intercontemporain 2015, with whom he made his debut at the Philharmonie de Paris in 2016, standing in at short notice for Pablo Heras-Casado. In 2017, Mayrhofer conducted premiere performances of his commission for the Ensemble Intercontemporain in the Philharmony of Cologne.
As a composer Mayrhofer has received choral, chamber and symphonic commissions from the Bayerische Staatsoper München, Bayerischer Rundfunk, Biennale Munich, Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Ensemble Intercontemporain, Staatsoper Hannover, the Scharoun Ensemble of the Berliner Philharmoniker and the Tyrolean Festival Erl.
